Town of Martinez & Dr. Strentzel in 1863
We would like to thank Ms. Maureen Mroczek Morris from San Francisco, for sending us this very educating article. This incredible writing describes the place where we are today, from 130 years ago. The article was originally published by California Farmer and Journal of Useful Sciences, Volume 19, Number 18, on 26 of June 1863 and was titled: Our Rambles in the Country No.1 - Martinex.
Here is what Ms. Mroczek said about her research regarding Mr. Strentzel's family:
"I'm working with one of Strentzel's relatives who has a collection of some of his letters. So far, 3 or so of the letters have been translated (from
Polish and German). Strentzel is such an interesting guy. In one letter he mixed 3 languages: English, Polish and German. Apparently his family in Lublin was quite wealthy and we know that Strentzel did quite well in Martinez!"
If you are interested, and would like to learn more from Ms. Maureen Mroczek Morris historical research, please check attached link. You will find more interesting facts connecting people who lived here to Poland, like Feliks Pawel Wierzbicki or Joseph Paudler from Przemysl. Abraham Lincoln knew Joseph Paudler. He fashioned a bronze bas-relief bust of Lincoln in Washington D.C. Locally, Paudler was the "finisher" of a statue of President McKinley in Golden Gate Park. He died in San Francisco in 1917.
